Windcave PX Post Gateway Setup Guide

··

Last updated on Aug 24, 2026

Connect Windcave (formerly Payment Express, also called DPS in some places) to Advanced Billing to process credit card transactions using Windcave's PxPost product. You need separate credentials for testing and live processing. Contact Windcave first if you don't have PxPost credentials.

Important: Windcave isn't available in the standard gateway picker by default. Contact Maxio to request access for your site.

Username, password, REST API credentials, and SCA settings

  • Username: Issued directly via email from Windcave support once your account is activated.
  • Password: You need to call the Windcave support line for this, since it's sensitive to your account.
  • REST API Username (3D Secure only) and REST API Key (3D Secure only): Required only if you use 3D Secure.
  • Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) Enabled: Turn this on if your Windcave account processes payments subject to PSD2 SCA requirements.

Important: The credentials required for this integration are for PxPost, not the web portal or PxPay API.

Windcave credential types differ depending on whether your Advanced Billing site is used for testing or production. Test sites use UAT credentials; live sites use SEC. Windcave itself also has separate usernames and passwords for its test and live environments.

Important: Windcave requires the end-customer to be actively in the session to complete 3D Secure authentication for SCA. Card collection through the API or the Advanced Billing admin interface isn't supported for SCA-required transactions. See PSD2, SCA, and 3DS for the full list of affected workflows.

Requirements

Advanced Billing uses the Token Billing feature of Windcave accounts. This means Advanced Billing stores the card number securely in the Windcave vault. When it does, a "Validate" transaction is invoked, which attempts a $1.00 authorization to ensure card validity.

According to Windcave, Validate transactions aren't enabled by default, so you must make a support request with DPS to have the Validate transaction type enabled.

Currencies and merchant location

Windcave supports merchant accounts in the USA, UK, EU, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Brunei. Customers purchasing in other currencies are charged in their local currency at the exchange rate in effect at the time of the transaction.

For complete currency and merchant location support information, see the payment gateway overview page.

Data portability policy

Windcave doesn't currently support data portability. Its token billing vault is designed with a one-way data flow to prevent data breaches.

However, Windcave can accept customers moving from another gateway. Windcave arranges an sFTP batch transfer of existing card numbers that need to be tokenized in the Windcave system.

Windcave currency settings

When using Windcave, let Windcave know what currency you want to use for transactions. The currency setting in Advanced Billing must match the currency setting used by Windcave, as well as by your merchant account. Advanced Billing can't detect a discrepancy in this setting.
