Adyen Gateway Setup Guide

Connect Adyen to Advanced Billing to accept and process recurring credit card payments through Adyen's payment platform. If you don't already have an Adyen account, sign up for one before you begin.

Important: Adyen isn't available in the standard gateway picker by default. Contact Maxio to request access for your site.

Username, password, merchant account, live URL prefix, and SCA settings

To connect Adyen, Advanced Billing requires the following:

• Username: Format is ws@Company.[YourCompanyAccount] and is created automatically when you create your Adyen account.
• Password: Generate a new password for this user.
• Merchant Account: The Adyen merchant account to connect. You can have multiple merchant accounts.
• Live URL prefix: Required in live mode to build Adyen's live URL. This setting has no effect in test mode, but you need a valid value from your Adyen account in live mode.
• Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) Enabled: Turn this on if your Adyen account processes payments subject to PSD2 SCA requirements.
• SCA Live Environment: Select the region for your Adyen live environment: Europe, Australia, or US.

Important: Adyen requires the end-customer to be actively in the session to complete 3D Secure authentication for SCA. Card collection through the API or the Advanced Billing admin interface isn't supported for SCA-required transactions. See PSD2, SCA, and 3DS for the full list of affected workflows.

Requirements

Adyen requires certain permissions and roles enabled on your account before it can process recurring payments. Contact Adyen support to enable the following:

• PCI Payments permission, enabled for the web services account used for your Username
• Store Token role, which allows the tokenization process to happen when a card is stored

Shopper reference

For recurring payments, Adyen requires both the token stored for the payment profile and a Shopper Reference. Advanced Billing automatically creates this reference when storing the payment profile, using the format chargify_<customer id>. For example, a payment profile for the customer with an ID of 1234 has a shopper_reference of chargify_1234.

This reference appears on each recurring transaction in Adyen. Advanced Billing stores it in customer_vault_token on the payment profile.
