Get answers to common questions about Metered Fields, covering invoice behavior, missing or unavailable usage data, and formula support.

Do Metered Fields add to the invoice total?

No. Metered Fields are display-only. They show Meter data for informational purposes and have no effect on the charges, credits, or total amount due on the Invoice.

Can I show the same Metered Field on all Subscriptions automatically?

Not automatically. Metered Fields must be activated on each Subscription individually. This gives you control over which Subscriptions show which usage data.

Can a Metered Field show data from multiple Meters?

Yes. You can add multiple Meters to a single Metered Field, and each Meter appears as a separate row in the usage table. Alternatively, you can use a formula expression to combine multiple Meters into a single calculated row. See Use Advanced Formulas with Metered Fields.

What happens if a Meter has no data for a billing period?

If a Meter recorded no events during the billing period, it displays a value of zero in the Metered Field. The Metered Field section still appears on the Invoice.

What does "temporarily unavailable" mean on an invoice?

If the system cannot retrieve Meter data in time when generating the Invoice, for example due to a query timeout, the Metered Field section shows a "temporarily unavailable" message rather than failing the Invoice. The charge is unaffected. This is rare and typically resolves on the next Invoice.

Can I use a Metered Field to show segmented usage?

Yes. If your Meter uses segmentation, the Metered Field automatically displays usage broken down per Segment in the usage table.

Is the billing period for a Metered Field always the same as the Subscription period?

By default, yes. However, you can configure a Metered Field to use a Product's billing period instead, useful when a Product renews on a different schedule than the Subscription. See Configure the billing period source.

Can I use formulas in a Metered Field?

Yes, if the meter_formula feature is enabled on your site. Formula expressions let you combine multiple Meters with math operators (+, -, *, /, <, >) and functions (ABS(), MIN(), MAX(), ROUND(), IF()) to produce a single calculated value for display on the Invoice.
