Add Metadata and Custom Fields to a Subscription
Last updated on Aug 27, 2026
Use metadata and custom fields to attach your own contract numbers and other structured business data directly to a Subscription, so your records stay searchable and consistent without leaving Maxio.
How metadata works
Metadata is consolidated at the bottom of the Subscription form. It supports both a system-defined field and user-defined fields:
- Contract Number: Conditionally visible when your site has the Contracts feature enabled.
- Custom Fields: Key-value pairs that let you extend the standard Subscription data model.
Add or create custom fields
You can add a Custom Field while creating a new Subscription, or add one later from an existing Subscription's own Custom Fields tab.
To add a custom field while creating a Subscription
- Locate the Metadata section at the bottom of the Subscription form.
- Click the Find or Add a Custom Field… combo box.
- Type to search for an existing field, or select Create New Custom Field to open the creation modal.
- If creating a new field, enter the Field Name and select the field type.
- Once added, enter the Value in the Custom Fields table that appears.
- To remove a field, click its trash can icon.
Deleting a Custom Field from this table only removes it from the current Subscription; it does not delete the field definition from your site settings.
