Testing Apple Pay

··

Last updated on Aug 22, 2026

Validate Apple Pay functionality in Maxio by testing payments across supported environments and confirming proper behavior in production. Identify and resolve common causes of failed Apple Pay transactions, including device limitations and Apple-enforced security restrictions.

Review the following considerations when testing Apple Pay:

  • Sandbox testing requires an Apple Developer account with an active Apple Pay entitlement. Apple may require enrollment in the Apple Developer Program and payment of associated licensing fees.
  • Apple Pay functionality is limited to supported Apple devices and browsers.

You must complete production testing to fully validate Apple Pay functionality. Sandbox testing alone does not confirm that the payment button will render correctly in your live environment.

Important considerations for failed transactions

If a buyer reports that their Apple Pay transaction is failing at checkout, the following Apple-imposed restrictions may be the cause. Review each scenario below and share the relevant testing recommendation with your team or buyer.

Screen sharing during an Apple Pay transaction

Restriction: Apple blocks Apple Pay from completing on a laptop when screen-sharing software is active at the time of the transaction attempt. This is an Apple security restriction and is not controllable by Maxio.

Recommendation:

  • Preferred: Test and complete Apple Pay transactions on an iPhone.
  • If using a Mac/Safari browser: Stop any active screen-share session before attempting the Apple Pay transaction.

Screen recording during an Apple Pay transaction

Restriction: Apple blocks Apple Pay from completing on a laptop when screen-recording is active at the time of the transaction attempt. This is an Apple security restriction and is not controllable by Maxio.

Recommendation:

  • Preferred: Test and complete Apple Pay transactions on an iPhone.
  • If using a Mac/Safari browser: Ensure screen-recording is stopped before attempting the Apple Pay transaction.

External keyboard Touch ID with laptop lid closed

Restriction: Apple Pay may fail when a buyer is using an external keyboard with Touch ID while the laptop lid is closed. This is an Apple security restriction and is not controllable by Maxio.

Recommendation:

  • Preferred: Test and complete Apple Pay transactions on an iPhone.
  • If using a Mac/Safari browser: Use the built-in laptop Touch ID (with the lid open) rather than an external keyboard Touch ID when completing an Apple Pay transaction.
